The Tournaments You Need to Watch in 2024

It is not often that we are treated with international matches , let alone tournaments in which nations are actually playing with their best players , in order to claim themselves as the best in the world, or their continent. 2024 is a special year for soccer fans, given that there will be three major international tournaments held during the summer.

The tournaments taking place this year will be the EURO , the Copa America , and the Summer Olympic games.

The Euro and Olympic games will both be hosted in European countries, Germany and France respectively, while the Copa America will be held here in the United States.

While they all promise a great level of play , excitement , and goals, the Copa America will have more to offer for people here in the US , and San Diego as well. The closest games to us will be in Las Vegas, Santa Clara, and Inglewood. Tickets are on sale now and you could get to see the likes of Brazil , Colombia and Mexico.

Tournament Breakdowns

EURO ( June 14 - July 14 ): The European championship will have 24 nations competing , divided into six groups of four. The two best teams will advance to the knockout stages , with four best third place teams also advancing.

France and England are the two favorites to win the entire thing. Both teams have immense squad depth, as well as the right balance of experience and youth amongst their players. The French have Kylian Mbappe, while the English have Jude Bellingham, two of the sports current superstars and talismans for club and country.

European competition is much tighter , with at least five other nations more than capable of winning the tournament as well. The hosts, Germany will be looking to regain their reputation and impress the home crowd, while Spain, the Netherlands and Italy also in the hunt for the trophy.

Copa America ( June 20 - July 14 ): The US will host the Copa America for a second time, after hosting it in the centennial tournament in 2016. CONMEBOL and CONCACAF have joined forces for this version of the cup, with 6 North American teams participating alongside the conventional South American nations.

The reigning world champions are this year's favorites , with Lionel Messi leading the pack. Brazil are a close second , with a chip on their shoulder to prove to the world they are still the mighty team we all associate with the name and iconic yellow jersey. One big name that will miss the tournament is Neymar Jr , with a knee injury ruling him out of the season.

Mexico and the US are expected to compete and at least reach the knockout stages. The stars and stripes are coming off a Nations League win, and are in much better form than Mexico both collectively and individually.

Olympic Games ( July 24 - August 10 ) : The olympics will be the only summer tournament with both men's and women's participating to win the gold. Men's teams are restricted to under-23 players, with three over age players allowed, while women's teams have no restrictions in their squads. The US men's and women's sides both qualified. Given the restrictions of the men's tournament, it often makes the group stages less relevant to many , with knockout stages drawing most of the interest and attention. The USWNT is expected to take home the gold given the fact that they are a powerhouse.

There is your round up of the three tournaments you must tune into , or buy tickets to go watch during the summer of 2024.
